I have two PCs (one running Windows 98 and the other ME) on my network that will not dispaly special characters correctly in Approach. Specifically; the keystrokes alt/0216 produces Ø (diameter sign) normally, but on these two PCs it comes up as either Ο or ¥.
Any ideas?

That isn't a diameter symbol. It's a capital letter that occurs in many European languages. Alt + 0248 produces the lower case version.

It may be something to do with fonts. Is the font used in the apr file on the development PC, installed on those PCs or is Approach substituting one when the apr is opened? You can use Character Map to see which character is returned by Alt + 0216.

If the font is installed then it might be using a different code page. Have a look in autoexec.bat to see if a different code page is selected. It may also be an parameter of the Country setting in config.sys. Eg:

Country=044,850,c:\windows\command\country.sys

Where 850 is the code page number.
