i need to buy a server to run a few sql db's
it will be 2005
i cannot connect the server to a san due to certain constraints so the storage will be local

the db's will be small and at most 15 users

server will most likely be a dell 2950 or whatever the new ones are

am i correct in assuming that 64 bit sql is abetter option and then i can leverage more ram - the os will be 2003 but can get 64 bit (2008 isnt something i want to introduce just now)

not up on sql so what is decent memory to through at it

When it comes to SQL, the more memory the better. How large will the databases be?

not sure - i dont think they will be large

ie maybe couple of hundred mb's , there are more for specialised equipment etc - so they will be bespoke app type idea

i was thinking getting a 64 windows 2003 and then 64 bit sql 2005 then say 8 gb of ram?

With a couple of hundred megs of data, that's plenty. See if the vendor can get you any sizing information.
