Speakers are crackling 1

Speakers on my PC are crackling when playing music from iTunes. Sound appears OK from Web Games etc. Have moved speakers to different output sockets on PC.

Oddly enough you can stop the current play, try another song and it may/may not work OK.

Any ideas you geniuses.

PC is Dell Dimension 1100, running windows XP home SP2, can't think what speakers are but fairly basic came with package, iTunes routinely updated

I have had a similar problem and i found a little fix that solved my problem very quickly. Turn off sound enchancer and sound check in your playback preferences, that should do it.

Ok I'll take one last crack at this. First open Quicktime (usualy located in the taskbar), click on Edit Click on the Audio tab and check the Safe Mode box.

what is the manufacture of the sound card, chipset, motherboard???? ....the Nvidia 2 chipsets had issues with crackling especially with the onboard Realtech sound cards and the Sound Blaster Live and Audigy cards had issues.

This very well could be a chipset issue. does it crackle with .wav, CD, and/or .mp3 files

Sometimes if the sound card is not onboard you can switch PCI slots.

Sometimes the best fix is a clean install of windows.


I have also seen the crackle issue when a component in the motherboard is getting ready to fail

literally only get a crackle/stall when playing through itunes which would make me suspect a software setting in itunes, but used to work fine, looking at it though an upgrade to itunes is available, will try that next
