Speakerphone problems in room with lots of ambient noise

I set up a new avaya ACS 8.0 partner system for a friend, and one of the rooms has a lot of ambient noise, and the person in that room only uses the speakerphone, and it breaks up consistently because of the sensitivity to the noise in the room.

Is there a way to lower the sensitivity to noise in a 34d Series 2?

My second question is if there is no setting for this, are the speakerphones of previous models such as euro series one or mls model not have this same sensitivity?

You can put sound absorbing materials in the room to cut the noise, rearrange the furniture, or use the handset. There are no adjustments other than fixing the environment of the phone. You could try the Euro 1 or MLS, but if there is that much noise, it may not be any different. Also make sure nothing is blocking the microphone port of the P34D2, because that will exacerbate the problem. It is located on the right front end edge of the set underneath. You could try using the mute button, or lower the speaker volume. It should just be loud enough to hear the other party. These speakerphone functions are NOT full duplex, so only one person can talk at a time.

High background noise and half-duplex speakerphones are generally incompatible... Other Partner models won't be better. How about a wireless headset?

You could try putting a full duplex speaker phone on the AUX port and see if that is better.

wireless headset, or better a wireless phone with a headset attached then you can actually make outgoing calls too without touching the partner phone and it is probably cheaper.

Thank you for all your help, I didn't realize the avaya phone system was not full duplex.

This guy is very old fashioned and pretty stubborn about using a headset (wired or wireless), and I am thinking about getting the Poylcom soundstation2, but is there anyway to program intercom extensions into the Polycom phone book, or the only way to use polycom is connected to aux jack of the Partner 34D?

Because I though with the new Partner ACS Rel 8.0, I could hook up a standard phone into the ACS and I would get caller-ID and other stuff, but I am unsure if I am able to dial intecom, and other internal extensions.

My understanding the Polycom is a very good product. You can probably do some searches on this and other forums for more references.

In using the Polycom on the Partner System, it would be used as a "single line set". That being said, you would program the Auto Line Select to access the intercoms. To do that you need to access Central Telephone Programming on station 10 or 11 for programming the ALS feature. All the steps are covered in the documentation that is free for the download from support.avaya.com. Besides the ALS feature, you can use the Speed Call feature among others that are covered in the documentation for maximum benefit.
