Speaker/Headphones control

Greetings,

I have run W7 with the Speaker/Headphones always muted. I did not download anything, however, about 2 weeks ago I heard some of the W7 sounds while booting. After the boot, I clicked the mute button, but at the next reboot it was unmuted.

The change may have come with a software update, but I don't know.

So I am asking for help in where to look to see how this feature is changing.

Thanks for any help you can offer!
