Hopefully someone has seen this and can give a quick answer.
I have a small Slient/Server network.
SUN 420 apps server
5 Sparc20 workstations
Using NIS
When a user logs in, the login process takes a very long time.
Very often, for all users on all workstations ( no one in particular), the desktop will freeze, going to black from the usual blue. Users cannot change between the 4 desktops normally available.
The applications that are up will not accept any input; cannot move any applications that are stacked upon one another.
The only way I have found to get out of this is to rlogin from another workstation, and kill -9 the dt session and ttsession, then have the user login again.
Has anyone seen this, and/or point me in the right direction? Yes, memory is low - avg 128 MG per station.
Until the beancounters pony up some cash for memory, is there anything I can do about this?
