I'm would like to install solaris 9 on my pc. What am I losing if I install the intel version as vs the sparc version on a sun box.

the OS releases are more or less the same (just the hardware application layer is different), depending on the hardware you ether have to install the one or other release, meaning you cannot run the Solaris 9 x86 Version on a SPARC achitecture host and can not install vice versa

Best Regards, Franz

I have Solaris 9 running on both X86 and Sparc chips. The software is the same, but as Franz says, the way it interacts with the hardware is specific to the chip.

Enjoy!
