Hi,

I recently failed my 640-811.

One of the questions was on spanning tree where it showed me a network of three switches, beside each switch was it's Mac address.

Assuming each had the default priority, how do I work out which Mac address is the lowest?, do I just convert the first two hex digits to a number and choose the lowest?

Thanks

Well MAC addresses are usually presented in Hexadecial format (base 16). Therefore from the lowest to the highest, this is as follows:

0
1
2
3
4
5
6
6
7
8
9
A
B
C
D
E

Therefore, for example, MAC address 0000:41D3:74FA is a lower address than say 00F4:7463:D3A1. You don't really need to do any conversion, just compare each hex digit with the same corresponding hex digit in the other addresses.
