Hi
We have a network where we have a BD6808 with two MSM64 in the core and something like 24 Summit48e around the building.
There is two 1Gbps connection to each floor from the core.
On a floor there can be 2,3 or 4 Summit48e.
The initian config was using spanning tree to have redundant connections to each floor.
But each night at around 2:00 lasting for 90 min. everything shutdown. Extreme could find some of the errors in the logs (but could not tell what the problem was)
What the users saw was that they lost connection to the servers. At the same time we run backups but all servers are directly connected to the 6808 and they didn't fail.
We tried to more backup jobs around but this didn't more the problem.
All redundant connections was removed.
That didn't help.
Then one night one of our own people upgraded all switches, disabled all configs on all switches to not support Spanning Tree and now the network is stable again.
Before we try to implement Spanning Tree again I would like to know if someone else has had problems with Spanning Tree on BlackDiamond 6808 and Summit48e.
Cables are cat5e and cat6 for the backbone and they are tested and up-to-specs.
