Hello,

I need to enable portfast on 3 x 48 port 2950 switches and
1 x 24 port.

Enabling portfast has resolved an issue i was experiencing with XP clients in that the eventid 1054, usernv kept appearing in application logs.

Do i have to enable Fastport on each port?

yup you do. best way....

config -t
interface range fastethernet 0/1 - 48
spanning-tree portfast
end

This will configure all 48 ports at portfast at the same time.

as a note to the above, dont enable portfast on any ports that are not Soley connected to a PC/Server. If the port connects to another switch etc dont enable as this may create loops...

Ahh fantastic.

Is it best to do this outside business houre?

I mean, will it effect any network connections. I have configured 2 ports with fastport while the pc'c were on, working away and they were fine but i'm a bit weary about doing all 48 ports in one hit...

And thanks

Hi Smooth23,

I've configured PortFast many times on ports which connect to various systems, and none of them ever had a problem.
So it is safe to issue the comand in one hit.
The setting has no effect on the active physical connections, but it tells the switch to open the interface faster when 'something' wants to start using it.

HTH.
