Hi,

I was hoping someone has run into this problem. I have two standalone dlt8000 drives attached to a netbackup media server(Netbackup Datacenter 3.4 on HPUX 11i). The problem is when it comes to the end of tape, instead of requesting the next tape it keeps writing to the same tape until it bombs with a 174 error code(media error). If I run a backup that doesn't fill up the tape it completes fine. Thanks for your help in advance.

If your drives are stand-alone and the tape is full - It should request the next tape on that same drive - You will not be able to go over to the second stand alone drive. That is where robotics drives enter the equation.

If it keep writing, there is a hardware error in terms of you density being set higher than your tape capacity.

if i disable spanning in robotics drives, what will happen if the data is larger than the tape capacity?

You should be prompted to insert a second tape in the drive. This prompt will remain until your "request media timeout" value has expired - The job will then abort.

how do i disable netback to append current images to a tape that has unexpired images written on them?
