You need to use the ASCII character set. You can use Character Map, (Start-Programs-System Tools-Character Map)
Then select the font you are using and find the character you want. You will see a Keystroke code show up when you select the character you want (or just copy and paste). Then you hold down Alt and while holding it down you punch in the number code. (ie: Ö is created by holding down ALT and punching in 0214) Again, you can just copy and paste from character map too.
