Curious about what a good product that can greatly reduce the amount of spam that comes through a Lotus Notes Domino R5 email system. Thanks for the advice anyone.

Superscout from surf control is a good content restriction software. Visit surfcontrol.com for further info.
Cheers

Do you have Mcafee Virus scan for Notes? If you do you can use the content rules.
Just be aware that Spam killers or content filters won't work for everything.
John

I don't have McAfee Virus Scan for Lotus Notes, I'll check that out, what else is a good tip to give users on the desktop level which can help empower them when they run across Spam email. Thanks.

Using Rules in R5. Conditions would be specified to delete.
Good one to use is specify the domain spam is coming from.

If you are using R5 how about also using rules on the client.

However if you want to do it from the server end, we are using Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition as it also has filtering rules built in.

surfcontrol seems powerful, but what if management wants to filter internal Notes routing with banned words/content instead of SMTP only? Any ideas or products known? thanks in advance for any help.

I found a new client based spam filter for Lotus Notes. Check it out at:
It was created by the founder of Napster, and about 300,000 users are reporting spam to prevent its proliferation. Out of the box it blocks 80% of my spam and I never have to write a dam* rule again!

Be careful with Maysoft SpamSentinel. I downloaded trial version and when it expired, there is no way to remove it. It adds buttons to the memo document. Tech support was no help.

Mail Frontier works great and it customizable.

We've reduced Spam and Fraud emails by well over 95%.

Hope this helps.

I use Popfile which is OpenSource for my other email client but it does clamim to work with Notes for POP mail as well. I

We route all of our mail through Postini and it eliminates about 95% of inbound spam. The end-user has full control over what they want filtered out and what they want approved for delivery. One drawback for you - it does not have any internal mail controls.

Messagelabs,
Expensive but my poor little old SMTP server got a new lease of life.(and it stopped crashing)

we use a program called MailFoundry. It seems to do an excellent job, sometimes too good. If a user gets SPAM, the program will send a email to the user every morning with a list of spam that has shown up for that user. The user can then go into the email and restore an email if it is one that's actually need. It has helped us out greatly.
