Hi,

This morning when i opened up Outlook, it was showing 140 emails coming through, only a handful of these were proper real emails from proper real people and i had only last checked my emails on friday night, so thats over the space of the weekend..

It took about 30 mins before everything stopped coming through and i could even dream of checking my proper emails. its just getting ridiculous. i don't want to be waiting for ages each morning for masses of emails to finally arrive, only to click 99% of them and bin them to the junk folder, and i tell you what, the majority of these emails come with the title Mail Delivery Subsystem or something similar...emails that apparently been sent from MY email addresses and bouncing back as if I have been sending SPAM, hahahaha..

I have norton, including Anti-Spam and even downloaded the outlook add-in "SpamBayes" and have been training it for weeks to block or filter these messages, and this still doesn't work, i still get hundreds of stuff from the USA giving me loans and credit cards and opportunities for this and that - i don't live in america, why and how could i ever get a loan from there or want Viagra or penis enlarging pills, lol..

Is all this the responsibilty of my web hosters? not the spam itself, but for not stopping this spam? especially as these spammers are using my emails aliases to send emails and i'm getting all the flack and returned emails for it? what can i do to stop this or at least calm it down????

Only a few months ago, i was getting the odd spam in my inbox every day but now its become like global infection and every 5 minutes i'm deleting some email selling me stuff i would never want or need or emails that have bounced back to me, which i knew nothing about - it almost makes me laugh..

anyways, its monday morning, i've not had any tea or breakfast and i just wanted to add my two cents and rant to the world to find out how and more importantly why the hell we let this happen and how do we put a stop to it all?????????????????????

Cheers,
Paul

I can't give you an answer to the ever increasing deluge of spam that seems to appear minute by minute in our inboxes, and harder still is training filters to get rid of all of it....no sooner have you blacklisted a certain word, address etc then a new variation is popping up... that seems to be par for the course but......

as you trawl through your 140 emails just to find the one that counts, spare a thought for me on a Monday morning going through 2600+ of the bl**dy things just to forward on the three that mean something to one of my users.... I'll take your 140 over my 2600 any day! :O)

It's like waiting for the postman knowing that all your gonna get is bills!!

Wow...I thought I had it bad looking through 5-6000 a week for my 2 legit ones.

As a side note, I've had some decent success reducing spam to the end users inbox by filtering anything with a picture attatchment on it. This has filtered most of those wonderful stock tips and the majority of spams selling "any l@ve pi11 you want"
The only real defeat is all these yuppies you love their gd html email. I jsut write them back and tell them that in order to do business with us, they need to use plain text. They comply.

Sounds like someone has a virus and is using your mail address to spoof on the outgoing emails sent. Check your computer to make sure it's not you. You may have to set up an email filter or have your ISP block the incomming mail.

The answer is "42"

Have a good look at POPFile which is an extremely effective Bayesian spam filter. It works great with the Outlooks.

Please see
I use it and get 98.6% accuracy (and climbing). It is good reliable software and a doddle to get working. It is also free.
