Spacing / Brush Creation

Several hours ago, I was reading a question here about how to get even spacing between objects (the example was pairs of leaves). I started following the instructions in the solution someone offered (apepp?) which involved creating a brush, but had to leave for a meeting. Now I've come back -- and I can't find the post at all! Help -- am I losing my mind?
