Space not released after deleting records from a table

Hi all,

I have some huge tables from where I have to delete a few milion records, dropping and recreating the table is not an option.

After deletion the space is still not released even after i run update statistics medium on that table.

Anybody has any idea how can i get the space back?

Hi:

If there is a method for reclaiming the space as you described I don't know what it is. I think you're almost forced to drop and recreate the table.

I don't mean to elaborate on the obvious, but at least that space isn't totally wasted in an OLTP environment. You can add data for quite awhile since you have space available.

I have a similar problem, and I use the Informix High Performance Loader to optomize what little down time I have.
