How do I know how much space left in my DDS tape? I have problem with my autobackup recently and I suspect DDS tape is full. Please advise.

hi,

how are you backing up your data ?
what type of DDS tape drive have you got ?
what filesystems are you backing up ?

if you used a block size to back up your data you can use the dd command and bs=(block size ) to determine how man blocks have benn written to tape

e.g. if block size is 64k

dd if=/dev/rmt/0m? of=/dev/null bs=64k
