I'm try to push out SP3 to W2K pro clients through Group Policy. Yes I know, a little late. The boss also does not want SP4 rolled out yet. I extracted the update.msi file, created a software install GP in computer configuration pointing to the msi file. I created an OU, created security groups within the OU. I then put the clients in the security groups that I want to SP. In security on the GP, I added the security groups, and gave them apply policy and read policy.
Doesn't work, any ideas to what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,

First, you have to be sure that the policy is applied. Use "gpresult" tool for checking this (from Win 2k resource Kit).
Beeing assigned, i suppose that you assign it on the workstation level.
See what gpresult is saying.

Do the users have access to where the install files are located? From a user can you connect and start the install manually?

gpresult shows my ther GP's being applied, but not this one.
Users can access it directly, no problem there.
Do I need to do anything to the update.msi file?
I extracted it and have all the extracted files in the same folder. Is that correct? Then my GP pooints to the update.msi file.
