I am writing a simlar post in the xp area. However I am wondering if a hard drive can go bad and make this issue.
My issue is that I have reformated the hard drive 3 times now. and it has ending up in a revolving boot.
The first time sp2 was download automatically and once it rebooted everytime you clicked on any program the IE window appeared fatal error do you want to send report window. No operation could be done.
Reformatted exactly a week later a revolving boot process started. Xp screen would come up and the cycle began.
spent 5 hours on chat with microsoft corrupted file could not be corrected. Possible cause loading software made sp2 unstable.
so reformated loaded sp2 off the disk applied all hotfixes then, loaded all software. pc seemed fine. today after 4 days of working loaded another 3d graphic software. PC is in a continous reboot. the screen is, load xp in safe mode or reg mode or any other mode doesn't matter it never boots up.

any ideas no matter how crazy I will try. :)
thank you Jackie

Can't help thinking this might be hardware related?
Symptoms are typical of an unstable hardware setup, one that is never far off freezing or restarting.
The main cuplrit or suspect is usually memory but a cheap power supply can also do this (unstable voltage supply)
Other possibilities include incorrectly fitted heatsink, faulty addon card or even defective CDrom device or anything that plugs into your system ie: keyboard/external modem etc including power leads and wall sockets.
It might be worth taking your system back to a bare minimum state and seeing if this cures your immediate problem.

With the problem occuring again after isntalling teh 2rd graphic software I would lean towards that as your culprit. What software was it and does it maybe replace hardware drivers or chipset software maybe? I know SP2 has a long list of software conlficts with it.
