Hi. I have a unix server. I would like to allow 4 distributed developers to be able to store and access files and file versions on the server.

We used to be on windows and used Microsoft source safe. Is there a similar solution for unix?

Hope This Helps, PH.

If you had experience with it, I'd say CVS is the obvious choice.

But since you're starting from scratch, I'd recommend Subversion. Both take a little getting used to, but were similar enough to clearcase (the only non-open source VC system I've had to use) that maybe the concepts are standard in the field.

Subversion covers all the features of CVS, but addresses some sortcomings and has an HTTP interface as well as its own remote protocol.

Hi. I'm looking for a server side db that will just sit their happily and a web access client that I can use to manage it and for users to check files in and out of...

Thank you both for responding. I'll have a look at the sys's.

I think subversion also has a DAV server, which sounds like what you'd like.
