Hello all

I recently agreed to help a friend rebuild their pc, and wish I hadn't. I've managed to find all the drivers and everything is now working, but there is a problem with the sound.
It plays cd-audio fine, but Windows sound effects and certain sounds within applications just loop until the next sound is generated, which then itself loops and so on.

The soundcard is ES1938 PCI and the motherboard PA-2011 with a cyrix 300mhz chip. The OS is Win98. I have tried 4 different versions of the driver, from the very first one to the very latest. I have also tried the card in another slot, all to no avail.
I would be very grateful for any ideas...

Sounds to me like the card might be bad you said you tried it in a different PC with the same results. Have you tried a different card in the PC you are trying to fix? If you get a clean sound thin I would get another sound card

I agree, try it in another computer and try another card in the computer your repairing. Possibill damage when you built it(static?). People seem to forget that IT IS a real threat. If your unsure....Dont do it!

Just for the record it turned out that the PCI controller was missing. After I reinstalled that everything worked perfect.
Thanks for the suggestions anyway, people

I have been having a similar problem in a game,
So I'll be looking at my PCI controller drivers now :)
