I've had a SoundBlaster Live Platinum 5.1 (with LiveDrive) working fine on my W2K Pro system (a DV editing system) for over a year. I recently installed Cake Walk's Sonar 2 music editing SW, and found I needed a driver update from Creative before I could record from the sound card in Sonar. I downloaded and installed the driver updates; a couple of other problems cropped up. Working with Creative Support I uninstalled, reinstalled, moved the card to another slot, did a clean sweep uninstall, reloaded old SW from CD, etc. several times. (There are no other sound cards, & the SB is the only device on IRQ 19.)
Now, even though the card shows to be operating okay (Device Manager), there is NO audio in Windows at all. The volume control is missing from the taskbar, and Control Panel > Sound & Multimedia (Audio) shows no playback or record devices installed. By using the Windows DirectX Diagnosis tool, it shows the card okay (and plays music thru the speakers). Creative's Diagnostic tool shows the card okay, but all drivers fail. The only real clue is in System Information > Drivers, which shows two of the Creative SB drivers (emu10k1f.sys and ctlface.sys) okay, but STOPPED.
I'm still working with Creative Support, but does anyone have an idea as to why the SB drivers would be stopped, what controls them, and how to START them? It's got to be something simple. After recovering sound, I can get back to making Sonar work!
(Abit VP6, dual 1-GHz P3, 1.5 GB RAM, all W2K updates installed.)
Thanks...
