I have a Win98 machine that will not play wav files in any program. I can't even get the volume control to "ding". However, it will play midi files just great. I have reinstalled the sound card twice, I'm stuck. [sig][/sig]
does it give you an error, or does it just not play? Have you tried changing the PlayBack Source under ControlPannel...Multimedia, or have you looked to see if any icons had a RedCircle with an X, or a Yellow Circle with an ! under ControlPannel...System...Device Manager
I checked the device manager. Everything is working fine - there are no conflicts. I also checked the control panel/multimedia - the Playback is set to SB WaveOut(220). The midi is set to Single Instrument - Creative Music Synth(220). I tried changing the midi to one of the others in the list (SB16 midi out 300 or WaveSynth midi), but then midi files won't print.
There are various error messages that come up. One program says that there may be an IRQ conflict and all the other messages say that the wav device is in use by another program. Of course, there is nothing else running. Even the startup sound will not work.
