Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question (I know very little regarding the audio output of a system), but what is the difference between the (Legacy audio drivers) and the (Realtek AC'97 audio for VIA (R) audio controller)? Are both of these required for sound on my Compaq Presario? I want to be using the best I am able to use in terms of sound quality and performance.

Thanx,
Kelly

Disc usually come with 2 or more drivers on them as for compatibility and future troubleshooting problems. Every now and then someone has a problem with compatibility of a certain driver so they include other drivers as well. If all the drivers on the disc are compatible just use which one sounds best to you. The actual main one they usually install first will probally sound the best but if nothing else you can try each one and decide for yourself.

the realtek is necessary. the multiple drivers themselves probably wont cause any noticeable difference in sound quality, so i wouldnt worry about that part too much. if you are looking for better quality in general then a newer add-on sound card would probably sound better than the integrated audio that you have now.
