Hi there all. Another pain. I have lost my sound for games. I go to System Information and run the DirectX diagnostic tool. While it is loading up and getting whatever info it is getting, it is interrupted with this error message. This is how the message box looks:

In the titlebar:
"DxDiag Error"
the message:
"Error: Problem getting extra sound info, result code = 0x8878000a (The request failed because DirectSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by another caller.)"

There is an "OK" button.

Needless to say, I cannot run any of the tests.
The only thing of significance that has chenged is the addition of a FlashDisk to my system WIN98SE, which did seem to impact on the system until recently, when this started to happen.

I am fairly stupid when it comes to system troubleshooting. Can someonw please provide a permanent solution?
Many kind regards
Micash

Does the sound work elsewhere in Windows?

If yes, then reinstall DirectX, you can get it at
If no, then look at your speakers, make sure they have power and they are plugged into your sound card. Also check device manager for any conflicts if the sound isn't working... Does the sound card show up there?
