I have speakers atached to my computer. The sound has always worked before, I have no idea what happend. The speakers do work because when I go online I can hear it dialing on the speakers. The sound appears to play on the computer but I can't hear it through my speakers. I've tried all the troubleshooting things Windows took me through and nothing has worked yet.

Hi,
If you play a CD or a .WAV, MP3, do you hear something..? and you didn't do nothing..?

Check in the device manager if there's a IRQ or DMA conflict for the soundcard and with what.

Else, remove the soundcard and all of its device, MIDI port, etc.. and reboot, it should detect itself back.

Else, check with new speakers, or new cables..

But if you hear your modem dialing, that is not necesserally good... Maybe, an electronic part burnt on the soundcard and it doesn't work.. Ask a friend to lend you his soundcard for a test, it should be interesting..!!

Ben_Cool
Ben_Cool
ben_cool@hotmail.com

The reason that hear the modem dialing is because most modems have an onboard speaker. Try this make sure the speakers are plugged into the soundcard, it may have come loose or have been put back into another jack.
Make sure that the speaker icon (beside the clock) doesn't have a red line through it, if it does click on it once and uncheck the mute box.

Instead of getting another sound card to test (Not a bad idea), first try a different set of speakers.

Good luck...
Troy Williams B.Eng.
fenris@hotmail.com

Make sure your volume knob on your speakers are on High.
Also try to plug in a head-set into your CD-drive and put volume on "High".

Charles Keller, Kelowna, BC, Canada.
