Looking for some skillz to help me w/ a problem I am encountering w/ trying to edit a video 'cause for me....!=Nub

I have uploaded a video (AVI) [using Windows Movie Maker] that I am primarliy trying to edit the sound. The camcorder (JVC: GR-D70US) only works w/ Windows Movie Maker and I used a Firewire to upload. When I play the video thru my media player... .no problem w/ the sound. But when I bring it into Premier... the sound is a high pitch and seems fast (chipmunks) yet the video is normal. I get the same situation when I open it in Audition. Is this suppose to be normal??? I am trying to overlay some songs in the video w/ the actual tracks as well as soften the wind (Wedding on the Beach).

Didn't know if any of you have had any experience w/ this problem and might know the answer. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Also, forgot to mention that the sound also skipps/stutters voices and music....... thx

I've just run a quick test using WMM2 to capture and PPro 1.5 timeline replay and it all worked just fine (I use PAL).

It would be worth your while seeing if Scenalyzer Live ( for free try-before-buy) can get fully Premiere-compatible DV AVIs from your camera.

Otherwise, have a look at the file properties inside Premiere and see if there is something odd about the footage.

It might also be interesting to unlink audio and video and see what the sound does then on the timeline - just as a test.

Thank you for your response, Akribie!

I have just realized a few things:

1) When I click on the properties for the AVI file w/i Premier... It states 1 Video Tracks 0 Audio Tracks... is that normal?

2) I have imported other AVI files uploaded from the same camcorder using another application besides Premier (just as this one was). They all work great in Premier (audio)! I assume this means that there was a problem w/ the upload of this AVI file although the audio and video work fine in other applications.

3) The other AVI files that work fine, are smaller clips (2-8 minutes long) vs. this is 1 hr 2 minutes long. Maybe this causing an error? I'm no computer guru so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Your point 3 could be the telling point.

Premiere works best with Type 2 AVI files for lengths greater than about 10 minutes.

Normal capture with Premiere or Scenalyzer (when set properly) is Type 2.

I have just used GSpot to look at the test WMM AVI file I captured earlier and it is a Type 1. It reports video and 0 audio tracks in PPro 1.5, unlike a Type 2 which reports correctly.

You should be able to convert from Type 1 to Type 2 using the free download VirtualDub (Google for it).

Suggest you avoid long captures in WMM in future if you want to edit in Premiere.
