I just started my cpu and am running win 98. My soundcard drivers are all gone and i have nothing to reinstall them with. The card wont show up under my device list. I dont even know the name of the device. How can I remedy this situation.

Open the computer and look at the sound card. There should be something on the card that tells the manufacturer, type or if there is a black chip on the board, it will have information pertaining to what kind of driver it needs. S3 is a popular chip on AGP cards. Oh, yea, you'll need to know that too whether it's VLB, PCI or AGP.

Then go fishing on the internet for a driver:

are just a couple of places to go, but you need to know the manufacturer.

You could try running add/remove hardware, but if windows didn't pick it up in the beginning, I'm not sure it will with that either, but it's worth a shot.

Hope this helps,

Lori

Sorry, I just gave you specs for Video card not Sound!

Look for the info on the card just like I said, then see if it's in an ISA slot or PCI slot or if it's On board go to the manufacturers site for the mother board you have to see if they have drivers.

The sound drivers can still be found on the sites I gave you!

I am so sorry, it's been a long day on the computer! :)
