i am fixing a machine for a friend of mine as a favor. it is a Compaq presario cds 520 (486 machine). for some reason the sound card wont work. it is an advance logic als 120. can anyone help me on this! please! any help would be greatly apreciated. thanks in advance.

You probably are not loading the proper sound drivers.

1) Do you have the quick restore CD that might have come with the machine (the name may be different but this is the CD that contains all the factory installed software)
2) Was the sound card included in the original configuration?
3) Are you installing the original operating system?

If all answers are yes, then your drivers are located on the CD, install it.

If any answer is no, then you should look at for some answers, if the sound card is a Compaq item.

If the sound card is not a compaq item, then you should look at the manufacturer's web site.

Good luck,
Engin

The first thing to check is the volume controls. The system mixer, Multimedia options, the software (such as Windows Media Player), and the speakers. Make sure they are not "muted" also. Make sure the speakers are plugged into the correct jack and are powered up.
