I am having a problem with my sound card it will only play the first part of the first wav (was the startup tune) b 4 cutting out as if the sound finished.

problem is no other sounds will play and in the volume control it looks as if the wav is still playing.

I have tried allsorts. re-installing the card (sb 16) re-installing windows drivers etc...

I have even gone through direct x diagnostic.

this is the error I get

DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x8878000a (The request failed because DirectSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by another caller.)

any ideas ?? it is doing my head in as I cant play any games.!!!

Has the sound card ever worked correctly or is this a recent issue? Home: SRFlanigan@home.com

I looked up the error message on the web and it looks like something else is running that has access to direct sound. Do you have the latest directx drivers? I would even try to uninstall them(never done it, not sure how to) and reinstall them, but first check and see what is running as it seems like something else is locking the sound card.

yeah. the sc is blocked by a wav.

I don't know what the heck is going on. tried with a lot of wav files (needing a lot of re-starts) so it aint them.

Checked and re-installd old and latest drivers.

I am at a loss and pulling hair out Manic

Manic,

What were your IRQ settings? In other words, how did you resolve your problem with your sound card? Was removing the NIC enough?

I have a similar problem, in which the Windows wav gets cut off during boot, and my sound cards won't function. One of my cards is onboard the MB, and I've never been able to get it to run. The other is an expensive Emu device that I use in my recording studio.

I recently upgraded my MB, which is when the problems began. Before that, I would run my old onboard sound card as a monitor play back with my Emu driving my MIDI devices and recording my analog inputs....

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

try installing the drivers. These days CD that come alongwith Motherboard might contain two to three different kind of drivers. choose proper one and that should work. A wrong one might show u speaker icon on system tray but it wont playback. So check check and check yr drivers.

There are less chances for IRQ conflict when no other card are installed. So try removing any other cards which are optional and then re install. drivers. try it and let me know. From:

cyberdyne,

I've installed and re-installed the MB drivers. I've also removed my Emu soundcard. No success.... There's another thread in this forum that says to reinstall the OS, as the chip set has changed and there are now some device driver conflicts. This makes sence, and I'll do this over the weekend.

Keep y'all posted....

I have taken out the network card.

No one could see any conflicts at all so we are still at a loss as what the heck was going on.

I think that the sb 16 and the network card I had borrowed just didn't get along.

I had even tried disabling the cards in device manager but it still had a problem.

So if I want to hook up to a lan for games I have to play them without sound.

hi again !

Seems like yr lan card and sb card go for same IRQ or port address.

Try changing network card settings with the disk that came with the card. There should be an install or setup ( or similar) program on disk which will allow you u to change the settings of land card. If supported fix an IRQ for lan card instade of PNP.

Also check in yr BIOS settings. PCI configuration is set in AUTO or manual ? If in auto change it to manual. and try.

Everyone,

I reformatted my HD and reinstalled my OS over the weekend. My Emu SC works and my Video card no longer pixilates.

sir,
i recently downloaded directx8 driver from the net in order to run a new 3d screensaver.right after the download there is no sound in my pc.directx diag says
problem getting extra sound inforesult
code 0x8878000a(no driver)the request failed as the direct sound resources were already at use by another caller

moreover my sound volume adjustment logo has disappeared from my pc desktop

Sounds and multimedia and the audio tab and make sure all three drop down lists reference the right card. This should bring the speaker icon back and might even fix the sound.

hi everybody,
i have similar problems with sound
since i've formated my hd, the integrated device for sound doesn't work
therefore i've installed a soundblaster sound card
now i've sound for music and windows but no sound for games and films ("no audio hardware is available")
dxdiag says that Directsound does not work correctly
but directmusic works
i don't see any conflict in my IRQ settings.

What can i do ?

thanks.

Hi everybody,
I had the same problem as manic had. I was getting an error code of 0x8878000a with some problem with direct sound's priority level. I initially thought it was due to directx 8.1 which i had installed. I infact installed all the audio drivers again but it did not help. Now I have found a solution to this and it is very simple. The problem normally occurs because the same device cant be used as a preferred device in both playback and recording. So just choose the playback device as to be different from the recordig device in the multimedia properties from the control panel. That's it!! The problem is solved. You don't even have to restart windows!!
