Hi,
I have a Sound Blaster Live! which is on a PC with both Win98 and XP operating systems.

I would like to transfer vynil to CD and have a Record Player hooked through a pre-amp to the Line-in of the card. The card plays fine, but when I try to record, there is no sound whatsoever. Is the card FUBAR or have I missed something.
- There is no on-board audio

The problem exists on both OS

P.S. It did work once.

Check your software mixer. Make sure it is set to line in and is is not muted. You have to manually select line in. Make sure your plug is plugged into line in and not another jack. Jim

Please come back and let us know if your
problem is fixed and what fixed it!! [thumbsup2]

The thing is, that it plays fine. I can hear it - no problem

I have complete control on volume and mute via the line in section of the mixer.

It's just that if I try and record with any application, it doesn't register any sound. I've tried all the possible connections including microphone - still it flat lines.[sadeyes]

The software you are using to record with, do you have it's recorder options set to line in?? Jim

Please come back and let us know if your
problem is fixed and what fixed it!! [thumbsup2]

I've tried 3 different type of recording apps. The main one has a drop down box for selecting input.

I've stepped through all of them to no avail.

This is a wierd one!![3eyes]

I'm out of ideas, sorry. Good luck! Jim

Please come back and let us know if your

I know that you used one piece of software to try to select the recording device, but still...I think that ANFPS26 had you on the right track.

You can hear your sound from the line in, and you can adjust the volume level. Sounds to me like you are adjusting the "Playback" volume.

(In Win 98) Go into volume control. Click the "Options" menu, select Properties. Select "Recording" and make sure that line in is selected. Hit OK. Now make sure that Line In is not muted (or is selected) and try again. Mudskipper

Quick! Run out and find me a four year-old child: I can't make heads nor tails out of this!"

Thanks for your input ANFPS26 and Mudskipper you were both correct, in regards to my Win'98 operating system.

On XP I had to download the latest driver (50MB) which had a diagnostic on it that said my mixer needed fixing - which it duly fixed and now I can record on both OS.

Thanks all[2thumbsup]
