sound card performance

That is always a tough question to answer. A souncard's subsystem almost always sees improvement with both hardware and software driver upgrades. So generally you can expect to see at least a slight improvement in CPU usage when going from one product line to another.
With that said, I wouldn't suspect too much difference overall in your situation. Sound quality and features are probably the biggest factors.
