i have my crystal report lining to a view within an sql database, i have field that change a normal data field into just showing the month and year, so i cna use this field to group within the report.

Each month is seperated on a different page, which works fine. But the sort order is not going by the month, but alphabetically.

would any one have any ideas how i would acheive this within crystal

I did think initially that i would create the extra field that i wanted (month/year) within crystal, but i did not know how to do this, so found it easier to do this within the sql database.

Any assistance would be appreciated, and thanks for any help in advance.

I hope you did not use a view specifically for this report, as Crystal can do this just fine without a view.

In answer to your question however, have you looked at specified order grouping?

I would drop the view and create a group on your date field , you can get this to group for each month by changing the 'this section will be printed' box to foreach month.

To display just month and year you can then format the group name field.

the issue that i had was with the linking between the tables in crystal.

Oneof the tables collect information so a lot a database within crystal - but all i wanted was to query this table against 1 other database, to display records that only relate to that particular one.

I am use to relationships etc, i tried everything that i believed would work, but nothing would... that is why i found using a view was a quick fix to my issue - i know it probably not best practise.
