Hi,

I use CR11 and have a group in the header, suppressed if duplicated, then formulas in the detail sections. I put a suppress field in my detail section so I could sort on it, but then my group header repeats for each detail section. Looks like this:

[Group Header] Group #1 Name
[Detail] {@GROUP Name}
[Detail] {@GROUP Data}{@Begin date}

I want to sort the {@GROUP Data} by Begin Date, so I put the formula {@Begin date} in the detail section and suppressed it, then sorted on that.

Now, I get the [Group Header] for each instance of the sorted Detail section.

Is there any way to keep the [Group Header] from repeating?

Thanks for your help.

Don't put the field in the section and sort on it - there's a better way!

Just put the data you want to show in the details section. Then go to the "Record Sort Expert". In this, the groups will always be sorted first, then you would add your date field to the "Sorts". This will then sort the detail data by date within the groups.

Thanks, Dell.

But, can I sort on a field that is not part of my formula or used in any other way in my report?

Thanks, Angie

Yes, any field from a detail line can be used. Also formula fields based on a detail line.

The editor gives priority to fields that you are already using, since most often these are what you'd want. But scroll down and there will be more.

PS. It is worth doing some trial reports in Crystal just to see what it can do.
