CRXI: I have created a Sort Parameter for four columns and a default parameter value. When I open this report it ask for a parameter even though the default value is in the prompt. How can I open this report and run without this prompt? I would like the user to first see the results before selecting a sort order. I want this to run like a non parameter report upon opening.

Although you can't do this in versions 11 and before, from what I've been hearing, I think something like this is possible in Crystal 2008.

Not sure what eactly you are after, but you could create one main report, with the four different subreports.

Each subreport the same but sorted differently.

This way, you users will see the report, sorted each way they would need. When they refresh it, they could choose a parameter, say 1,2,3 or 4, and depending on which they choose, the other subreports would be suppressed. Shove each subreport in its own report footer, to make this nice and easy.

I've done similar with crosstabs. Create two exactly the same, but one pivoted. Place in its own RF, suppress depending on a users choice (normally depending on how many columns they expect). They only ever see one, but they have a choice of 'items' goig down or across.

Not sure what you are trying to do but I have used parameters to sort records

Create a parameter with your sort types, with a 5th as "No Sort" and this being your default

Create a formula

If Param = Sorttype1 then Field1 else
If Param = Sorttype2 then Field2 else
If Param = Sorttype3 then Field3 else
If Param = Sorttype4 then Field4 else
""

Use this formula to group report
If user selects "No Sort", formual returns "" and no sort occurs.

Bottom line--You will not be able to run the report without responding to the prompt.
