Thanks for your time. My report groups by EmployeeID. I need to have it sort by LastName. Can I do this in the group sort order formula workshop in the group expert?

In the change group options I have employeeID in the group by box, then I check the "use a Formula as group sort orde and then the X-2 button which take me to this workshop. How do I construct a formula that sort by last name

thanks for your help

I am new to this forum. I am still in the learning process of Crystal Reports. The way i will be doing it is, first group your records by {employee.lastname} and the do the grouping by {employee.id}. The suppress the sections related to {employee.lastname}. I hope this will solve your problem.

Instead of your current approach, you can insert a minimum on {table.employeename} (in order to activate group sort), and then go to report->group sort and select minimum of {table.employeename} as the group sort field.
