sort of a LAN messenger?

hi

i would like to make an application, that sends an alert, message, whatever, to every user loggend to the server
i know there are such utilities under unix/linux (or i think i know how to do that there) and i think also in novel networks
the received message should be opened in some popup window or somehow visible to the user
the application should not require anything to install on clients
we are running on ms sbs, clients are w9x
does anyone know if this is possible to do in vb?
if so, where's a good resource to give me a start help?

I think what you need is to create your own ActiveX control.
This task will be more than probably very time consumming.

In VB, I know that such ActiveX can monitor a whole network and tell you who is logged on.

There is a book where I saw such an exemple. The book was written in French, but they probably translate them. Look for a serie called "Le Grand Livre". The exemple was for VB5.0
