Sort details section a only

My Crystal XI report is gouped by RX number. Details A and Details B display the RX description based on formulas. The data looks like this:


SODIUM CHLORIDE 500 ml (Details A RX #1)

DEXTROSE 50 ml (Details A RX #2)

IRON SUCROSE 100 mg (Details A RX #3)
NS 100 ml (Details B RX #3)

DAPTOMYCIN 105 mg (Details A RX #4)
NS 100 ml (Details B RX #4)



I need it to sort by the RX description in the Details A section only to display like this:

DAPTOMYCIN 105 mg (Details A RX #4)
NS 100 ml (Details B RX #4)

DEXTROSE 50 ml (Details A RX #2)

IRON SUCROSE 100 mg (Details A RX #3)
NS 100 ml (Details B RX #3)

SODIUM CHLORIDE 500 ml (Details A RX #1)

Insert a maximum on the drug name (you can later remove this after doing the sort) and then go to report->group sort and choose maximum of drugname as your sort field for the RX group. Try ascending order--or change it to descending if they come up backwards.

Hi Lbass, I saw this in previous posts and tried it prior to submitting my thread. In Group Sort Expert I have MAR_View.Description

For this gruop sort based on Max of MAR_View.DESCRIPTION
All

I tried this both ascending and descending and it doesn't change the sorting of my details section. And if it did work, how would it know to sort only by Details Section A and not Details Section B

Detail_a and detail_b are populated from the exact same row of data--so sorting the row by a specific field will effectively sort both appropriately--detail_b will always follow the appropriate detail_a. Can you clarify your entire group structure? Is RX number the only group? Is MAR_view.description the drug name field?

There are two groups, RX Number, and secondly it is grouped by MAR_view.description. Yes, MAR_view.description is the drug name field. I tried removing the group on the MAR_View.description, but when I do, Detail section B displays prior to Detail section A.

Leave the group on description. Your inserted summary should be for the RX group, and when you do the group sort, make sure you are doing it on the RX group tab, NOT on the mar_view description group tab. You should select All->maximum of description->ascending.

It appears to be sorting by Details B when there are both Da and Db values.

Da Ertapenem

Da Daptomycin 150
Db NS

Da Iron
Db NS

Da Daptomycin 500
Db NS

Please explain the exact steps you are taking. Please believe me when I say you cannot separately sort by Da and Db, and if you choose the correct summary to sort by (maximum of Mar_view.description), you will not see a sort by some other field. You don't have any other group sorts already in place, do you?
