For some reason sophos is using all the system resources on some of the pc's on the network the service in question is savservice.exe it seems to use 100% of system resources and is making the pc's very very slow

has anyone else had this happen to them or can anyone suggest some help please

When that happens, it is either one of two problems...

1.) the file is corrupt and is not functioning the way it should...

or

2.) one of the system files has gone corrupt aswell...

Remedy:

Point 1.) de-install app and reinstall it... helps most of the time...

Point 2.) run SFC /Scannow from the Runbox or from CLI...

maybe someone has another opinion on this...

CLI - Command Line Interface, DOS implementation in Windows, or START/RUN...

SFC - System File Checker.... SFC.EXE /Scannow checks your system file integrity... have your XP CD at hand...

The only DUMB questions are those not asked....

It's been a year and a half since I used Sophos Anti-Virus but, like BadBigBen suggested, uninstalling the program and reinstalling it would fix several issues.
