Sony Vaio PCV-RS600 brand new. No capture device detected.

Hello,
Looking for a point direction here.
Equipment:
Sony Vaio PCV-RS600
Camcorder: Canon ES8400v 8mm.
I am in the midst of setting up this system. All basic are intact/ operations seems fine.
My problem is that I have conected the camcorder to pc via firewire. I have tried all I can think of plus spending half my day here searching the net for help.
I get : "Capture device not detected"
I am honestly at my wits end & have only 3 hairs left on my head. Please direct with help or another path I can take.

I've tried to find info on the net and as far as i've been able to see there is no mention of firewire being on the camcorder. The fact it is analogue Hi8 also suggests that it won't have firewire.

I have found mention of it's analogue audio and video outs.

Can you confirm the type of socket you are using

I did make a grave error here, It is not the firewire. I am using the audio & video cable. The firewire is on another PC.
