I recently purchased a Sony CD-writer Spressa USB. My PC is a PII 300 with Win98 2nd Edition. I have a Iomega Zip 100 off the parallel port. Windows Explorer will see the drive when I turn it on but then in a couple seconds the drive letter will disappear and Windows does not recognize it. I have to reboot and it does the same thing. I have looked for new drivers from Sony but no luck. I've called their tech support and they don't have a clue. Any thoughts?

I updated my Norton Antivirus as of last week and scanned...it's clean. I have spoken with Sony again and they suggested it is a defected USB cable. I think that's weird; cables usually aren't a problem. I am supposedly getting a replacement unit this week.

I had the very same thing happen to me with a toshiba cd-rom (not usb) and it was a virus. I cant remember the name of the virus I will look to see if I have it written down somewhere. I would be very interested to know if it is your usb cable. Let us know if that works!
