We have what I feel is a quite slow VPN connection using Netextender on a TZ200. At least slow compared with our old cheap Linksys RV042.
At home, using a computer with XP SP3, netextender can do up to 256Kbps Down and 100Kbps Up when connecting to the office. Still from home, using a new brand computer with Windows 7 64, netextender will perform up to 1.1 Mbps Down and up.
My home Internet performs about 13Mbps Down and 2.5Mbps up, the office is 60Mbps Down and 15Mbps up.
I use to do over 10 times faster with a Linksys cheap router in PPTP mode, so I am wondering if we are doing something wrong here or really is there performance issue with the SW Netextender. Can you please report performance experience? It is a problem for us since we are transferring big files or making remote desktop over big screens quite often and this is insane slow now.
One interesting note is that when Netextender is connected there is a new network connection shown on the XP task-manager. This connection reports to be connected at top 64kbps even if the speed in reality is faster. In the W7 machine this net start as 64kbps, but after a while transferring a big file automatically switches to top 1Mbps that would be more accurate. The old cheappy Linksys did the same but the link was always established at 10Mbps top.
Thanks.
