I have a year old Asus laptop running Windows 7 that I have tried to keep clean by not visiting "iffy" websites or downloading lots of software to. However, over the last two days, I have seen, very briefly, for less than a 1/2 second, a flash of a small rectangle with the letters "amicosun" or "am1cosun" right after the Welcome screen. Sometimes just the ghost of the rectangle appears with no letters inside.

I ran a complete virus scan of the laptop and found nothing. Also did an Internet search for the term and found nothing.

I tried to take a print screen of it, but of course it did not appear on that particular startup. I don't want to just restart it over and over, but this has me wondering what has gotten into my hard drive.

Anyone see anything like this?

Daniel

At what point in the startup process does this thing appear?

I see lots of recommendations here for programs like -

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

SuperAntispyware

Do you see the same "flash" from within Safe Mode?

Anything similar in name in the process list from TaskManager?

Perhaps a process related to Sun's Java runtime?

If you look at msconfig, what is loading at startup? Anything with a similar name?

Found it in the Task Manager. It is AmIcoSinglun64.exe

Several sites ID it as safe and part of the software that runs with Asus computers.

I have found quite a few virus sites that want me to pay them to remove it.

What do you think? It has caused no errors that I know of.

Looks like it is just part of a driver for an internal USB2.0 multi card reader.
