I recently put in a new server-a BDC-students and teachers use.The PDC still has the printers and romote database-to security.During the transition-when we changed from TCP/IP to DHCP- I had to run the winipcfg utlity to release a couple dozen machines-we have around 400 in the building. It worked for only a short while, those same machines appear to be scripting at logon when infact they aren't and the message I get when trying to access the drive is" **** is not accessible".Any ideas? The network cards are identical and running winipcfg again doesn't seem to work.

This could be caused by a number of things. In order to give you a better answer, i need a little more info. How is the DHCP server configured? multiple scopes? is there a gateway (router) set up in DHCP? Will the workstations get an IP address if you "renew" from winipcfg? With 400+ machines your scope(s) must cover more than 255 machines. How is your scope set up? example: single scope 10.0.1.1 to 10.0.2.255 or 2 separate scopes for separate subnets 10.0.1.1 to 10.0.1.255 and 10.0.2.1 to 10.0.2.255? Here is something to try after hours. Shut down all the computers and bring up one that has been having trouble. Test it. If it works, bring up more. I suspect all will work until you "max" out your configuration. Let me know if any of this helps. With a little more info I think I can help you get to the bottom of this!
