I am going mad trying to figure out why I can see any site on the web but my own!!

Every time I type in my url (which is correct!!) it gives me the 'cannot find server' error message. But I tried on a friends PC and there it is no problem. Like I said I can surf all day long with no problem but I need to be able to upload and view my site, but I can't see it.

Has anybody come across this issue and been able to resolve it??

Thanks in advance

Jon

Maybe you have a host file (which should be corrected or renamed) on your computer ?

most likely the site's address is blocked some how. Is it when you try to view the site with any brower or only IE ? If only in IE:
-Could be in your restricted site's list in IE. Remove it if there and add it to trusted sites.

If this happens with any browser:
then could be your host file:
in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc find hosts file, open it with notepad (or whatever) and find if the site is listed.
OR it could be a firewall that you have blocking the ip.

If behind a NAT router you will need to use a local address for your LAN and not the external address.

Most NATs will not handle a loopback reference to the external IP.

I am having the same problem. None of the above is causing it. Did you ever figure it out?

bcastner already gave the reason. A workaround would be to add an appropriate entry to your hosts file.
