I have been doing my banking online for some time. When I get to the site to logon it doesn't do anything. (for example then the logon.

A similar thing on other sites. I have been fiddling with this most of the day. Done upgrade after upgrade (I even did Xp-sp2, which I had been dreading). I am also unable to run the update site that let's you know what you need etc. I went to about help and it doesn't tell me the version.

I can using firefox go into the banking site. Which for that is "ok" but it doesn't fix the problem.

Any ideas? I am not sure what is stopping it either.

Is there a debugging/logging you can turn on when opening a page. I kinda wondered if anyone has seen this and can point me in the right direction to figure out what it fixes.

Check the system's date & time first (but I suspect FF wouldn't work either if this is the problem). Then follow all the links & references in thread608-1111837 Can't log into secure sites or connect to https sites

I would say since you have upgraded to XP SP2 then you may have a messed up IE.

To fix try this:

windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

Regards.

I just tried that. I got -2147024770 (8007007e) runtime, the specified module could not be found error when I tied to run it.

I have been poking around on the site referenced above, so far nothing has worked.

By looking at the read me for the iefix tool, this decribes exactly what I am seeing just can't seem to run it.

That's a strange error. You could try downloading it again just in case something got corrupted during the download. Anyway, some of the first things that the IEFix utility does is to re-register the important IE dll's. Since you have SP2 you can re-register them with 1 command --> see line 5 of Q902932. If for some reason that fails, re-register them individually as mentioned in the first part of that article. It would also be wise to do a couple of online virus scans from faq760-3862 as well as some spyware scans.

YOU ARE DA MAN (or MAM in the case you are a lady).

I ran steps 1-3 and that resolved my issue. Thank you very much. An excerpt from the Q902932 that worked for me.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, re-register the DLL files that are related to Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 urlmon.dll in the Open box, and then click OK.

2. Click OK when you receive the following message:
DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded

3. Repeat steps 1 and step 2 for the rest of the DLL files by replacing the regsvr32 urlmon.dll command in the Open box with the following commands: • regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
• regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
• regsvr32 mshtml.dll
• regsvr32 browseui.dll
• regsvr32 jscript.dll
• regsvr32 vbscript.dll
• regsvr32 oleaut32.dll

4. Test to determine whether the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, do not complete the remaining step. If the issue is not resolved, go to step 5.

5. If the issue is not resolved, some of the core Internet Explorer DLL files may not be correctly registered. To resolve this issue, register the core Internet Explorer DLL files files.

Note The following step requires that Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) has been installed on the computer.

Click Start, click Run, type "%ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" /rereg in the Open box, and then click OK.
