some of the icons on windows 98 desktop invisible

hi...
some of the icons are not visible but I have to try to make out what it is and click accordingly same happens if I open internet browser,or explorer...I cannot make out whether it is yes or no?

any input would be greatly appreciated....its a windows 98 second edition on gateway computer with 13 gb HD and 64 Meg ram.

Update your AV program with the latest files from their website, and check for viruses.
Also, d/l and run Ad-aware, Spybot, and CWShredder to remove any spyware.

If those do not help, then see if the problem happens in Safe mode.
If not, then do a clean boot to troubleshoot it:
