This is the first time i write to a forum and i hope you won't disappoint me!

My Hardware & Software :
-i have 10 computers hp with win 2000 and novell client 4.81
-i have one netserver hp with Novell 6 Small Business Suite
-i have an application created with Visual Basic 6

My problem :

The application uses the map function(the volume is shared)on the server drive. When one of the 10 computers is stoped in an abnormal(power crash, unplugged, etc)way the files opened by it on the server does not close. After that other stations can't access the files.Even if the station(the one who crashed) is powered-on the files are still blocked and can't be accesed even by it.

If anyone can help me please do so, but don't tell me that the application is to blame.

Thank you

Best Regards,
Alex

LOL, well windows 2000 is notorius for lockups. WHat I would do is look at watchdog settings (Novell Side) you may have to modify this to accomodate your application so that in the invent a pc takes a dive, the server can terminate the connection quicker.

But before you go and do that, I recommend you go out to support.novell.com and do a search on the specific application. You may need to update your client to 4.83 to address the issue. Also, a recomendation for your win2k machines, increase the page file so that you have a minimum of 750MB and a max of 1024. That will give the machine enough breathing room to work.

Other than that, email me if you need.
