We are reorganising our server room at the moment, and one of the things being proposed is that we redecorate the room in which all of our server and telecomms equipment is being held in.

I've read that you shouldn't use solvents to clean PCs, but the only thing that could potentially damage our servers would be fumes.

The room is not very well ventilated - it doesn't have any windows - and not very big, if we were to have the room repainted or the floor retiled/painted, is there any risk of damage to the internal workings of our servers?

Generally if you can stand to be in the room it should be ok for the equipment.

I would love to have a server/telcom room without any windows in it. It would make things so much more stable.......

Thanks for the advice Stan.

The only problem with a server/telcoms room without windows is it becomes a hellish sauna in the Summer. :(

But that's why it's the only room in our building with air-conditioning. :)

And that's why there's so much more server maintenance done in the Summer. ;)

oh you were talking about windows to the outside.....i was talking about micro$oft. ;)
