Thought I should post this as a fresh question. Thanks to help of people on here, have installed a new to me Compact plus Nortel system. Re programmed it to suit my needs and all good apart from one last question.

When I dial 9 for an outside line, it brings up line 2 not line 1. I would like it so that when I dial 9 it brings up line 1.

I had this problem when I setup my 6+16 years ago and carefully wrote down the procedure for changing it. I must have put it in a very safe place as I cannot find it anywhere.

Any advice would be much appreciated, I have looked online and through all the manuals I can find but cannot find details on this. I might well be using the wrong terminology.

Cheers,

Ben.

You put lines in a pool, when dialing the pool code it will start at the bottom and work it's way up where inbound starts at the top and works it's way down so that calls do not collide.

If you must call out on line 1 then you risk answering calls by mistake.

Work around is to terminate the lines backwards then use Feature * 81 to move line around on your phone.

Is there an issue calling out on line 2?

Ah OK, thank you for your help once again. So it will start with Pool C not Pool A I see the logic. This system is in my home though with line 1 being the main land line and line 2 being an occasional VOIP line. I had the 6+16 setup with the landline to the line 1 port on the CCU and when I pressed 9 I got line 1. Never had any issues from accidently answering a call. I just like to keep this the same. Could I not muck around the with Pool settings rather than terminate the lines differently?

Cheers, Ben.

Since your numbers are not rollovers then it's not an issue.

It's not that it starts with Pool C, it will not jump to the other Pool.

If you put 4 lines in Pool X (any pool) then the bottom line 4 will be chosen 1st then line 3 and so on.

If you go into sets you can tell it's Prime Line to use Line X instead of a Pool.

Sorry to be slow, but still a bit stuck on this. I follow what you say. When I go into prime line though and choose a line other than int then the line is there when I pickup the handset. I like the system setup in a way that it is on intcm until you dial 9 or press a line button. But pressing 9 gives line 1. I think I follow what you say but still cannot seem to get it to work. Though the menu options are setup / worded differently. Am I misunderstanding something here.

If you want to intercom 9 and grab line 1 then make sure only line 1 is in Pool A, go to the other lines 2, 3 and 4 and make sure they are in any other pool other than Pool A.

Is there and specific reason you do not just assign the lines to the phone/s and press the line you want to dial out? since you only have 2 lines.

Ahhhhh Perfect ! many many thanks for all your patience and help! Very kind and very much appreciated. It is just the way the 6+16 was setup and the main line is the BT line and the other is only for if someone needs to call out and line 1 is already in use. Line 2 is more expensive to use so rather than do battle to keep bills down, was just easier to make the system behave in the exact same was as the last one. Thanks again ! Ben,
